Concord, North Carolina is a modern city that serves as the county seat of Cabarrus County. Population estimates suggest that over 92,000 people called this community home in 2017, and it is one of the fastest growing economies in the U.S. A recipient of the All-America City Award, Concord is home to small businesses and large employers alike, with top employers including Carolinas HealthCare System NorthEast, Connextions, and Shoe Show, Inc. Publically, Concord is served by the Cabarrus County School System, which includes five high schools, and higher education is available at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College and Cabarrus College of Health Sciences.
There are plenty of things to see and do in Concord. Downtown shopping is popular and features fine collectibles, antiques, arts, and crafts. Concord Mills is found here, as is Charlotte Motor Speedway – two of the top tourist destinations in the state. There are also wonderful golf courses in the area, including those found at the Rocky River Golf Club and Cabarrus Country Club.
Concord is located in North Carolina’s Piedmont area, and summers here can get hot and humid. Average daily high temperatures in July and August reach the upper-80s, although it is not uncommon for daytime highs to push into upper-90s. These conditions can be especially dangerous for the elderly and young children, so the proper precautions are needed at home. An Energy Star central air conditioning system can keep residents cool regardless of how hot it becomes outdoors.
Compared to other parts of the U.S., Concord winters are mild. Temperatures are cool and snowfall is minimal. Daytime highs reach into the low-50s, but it is typical for overnight temperatures fall below freezing. Light rain is the most common precipitation during the season, but when freezing weather does move into the area, dangerous conditions can result. Concord residents are encouraged to use the warm autumn season to ensure that their home climate control systems are working at optimal efficiency.
